Abstract
This experiment was conducted to study the effect of the rearing of Osmanabadi kids on varying animal density on their performance for three months. Eighteen Osmanabadi kids with similar age, size, and body weight and of either sex were randomly selected and equally divided into three groups comprising of six in each group; group T0 (0.7 m2), group T1 (0.8 m2) and group T2 (0.9 m2 floor space/ animal). All the groups were managed under a similar system of feeding and management. The body weight of the kids at the end of the experiment were 10.97, 11.43 and 11.39 kg, respectively. The average weekly weight gain and average daily weight gain were 0.13, 0.16, 0.15 kg and 0.018, 0.022 and 0.022 kg, respectively. There was a non-significant effect of floor space on average daily and weekly weight gain of Osmanabadi kids. The average daily feed intake of the treatment groups T0, T1 and T2 were 8.40, 8.55 and 8.51 kg, respectively, and the average daily water intake was 2.37, 2.83 and 3.03 litre, respectively. The feed and water intake showed highly significant differences amongst treatment groups.
