Abstract

The present study revealed polymorphic variants and their association with milk production traits at the k-casein gene (CNS3) locus in Sahiwal and HF Crossbred cows. The frequency of ‘A’ allele was found to be higher as compared to ‘B’ allele in above both breeds of cattle under the study. Chi-square values for testing correspondence between observed and expected genotypic frequencies at this locus were found to be non-significant in the Sahiwal breed of cattle, indicating that the populations of these animals were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium at this locus, while the Chi-square value was found to be significant (p<0.05) for HF crossbred cattle revealing the deviation from Hardy Weinberg disequilibrium at this k-casein (CSN3) gene locus. Association of polymorphic variants of k-Casein (CSN3) gene with milk quality traits revealed that the AA and AB genotype of HF crossbred showed non- significantly but higher lactose (%) in milk than both  AA genotype and AB genotypes of Sahiwal cow. Both AA and AB genotypes of Sahiwal and HF crossbred cattle also showed non-significant differences between them self. The AA genotyped animals in above both breeds of cattle revealed non-significant differences with AB genotype. The AB genotype of Sahiwal showed higher SNF (%) in the milk than both AA and AB genotypes of HF crossbred along with its own AA genotype. The milk density between AA and AB genotypes of Sahiwal and HF crossbred cattle showed a non-significant difference. The higher mean milk density (Kg/L) was noticed for AA and AB genotypes of HF crossbred as compared to AA and AB genotypes of Sahiwal.
