Abstract

The present study was an attempt to document the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infections with special reference to cryptosporidiosis in bovine calves of semi-arid area of Rajasthan. A total of 159 faecal samples (92 cattle calves and 67 buffalo calves) collected randomly from four different districts of the semi-arid area of Rajasthan from July, 2019 to January, 2020 were screened for various gastrointestinal parasites. Among various parasites, different helminths observed in the present study with their respective prevalence rates (%) were strongyles (61.63%), Toxocara vitulorum (22.01%), Trichuris sp. (13.21%), Strongyloides sp. (8.80%) and Moniezia sp. (2.51%) while Eimeria sp. was the most prevalent (63.52%), followed by Cryptosporidium sp. (27.67%) among the protozoan infections. A significantly higher (p<0.01) infection in cattle calves (76.09%) was recorded as compared to buffalo calves (56.72%).
