Abstract

The present study was conducted on seven post parturient recumbent bovines (5 cows and 2 buffaloes) aged 6-9 years, who had a history of recumbency within 48 to 72 hours of parturition. The animals were treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics, multivitamins, steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with supplementation with calcium, magnesium and phosphorous salts. The animals were rehabilitated using physiotherapy, soft bedding and were lifted using Animal Sling or Downer Animal Bay. Out of total 7 animals, 5 cases (71.42%) were recovered, 4 animals recovered on the 3rd day while one cattle recovered on the 15th day. It was concluded that medicinal management along with physiotherapy was effective in the early rehabilitation of the animals.
