Abstract

The present study was aimed to evaluate the beneficial effects of supplementation of sericin on seminal attributes during different stages of semen cryopreservation in Hariana bull. Twenty four ejaculates from four Hariana bulls were collected using artificial vagina and after initial examination the qualified ejaculates were divided into three aliquots; one aliquot was extended with egg yolk tris citrate (EYTG) extender (Control), second aliquot was extended with EYTG supplemented with sericin @ 0.25% (T1) and the third aliquot was extended with EYTG supplemented with Sericin @ 0.50% (T2). Samples were equilibrated and then cryo-preserved using programmable biological freezer in liquid nitrogen. Semen evaluation after equilibration (pre-freeze) and thawing revealed a significantly higher (p<0.05) per cent progressive motility, viability, spermatozoa with intact acrosome and HOS positive spermatozoa as compared to control. A significant (p<0.05) beneficial effect on different seminal attributes was also recorded in T1 as compared to T2 in equilibrated and post-thaw semen. It can be concluded that Sericin @0.25% supplementation to the egg yolk tris citrate (EYTG) extender provided better cryo-protective effect on equilibrated and post-thaw Hariana semen.
